We are very pleased to announce that as of June 25, 2012, our residency Family Health Center was converted to Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) status in partnership with the Indian Health Center of Santa Clara Valley (IHC).
FQHC status provides additional funding that has allowed the Family Health Center to maintain, expand and improve the availability of essential health care services to our growing and diverse clinic patient population. Patient demographics reflect the multi-ethnic, underserved, and publicly funded patients for which the Residency has traditionally provided care. The O’Connor Family Health Center is conveniently located across the street from O’Connor Hospital and is adjacent to the Stanford-owned faculty practice. The Family Medicine Residency Program continues its teaching affiliation with Stanford School of Medicine and institutional sponsorship by O’Connor Hospital.
The partnership with the Indian Health Center of Santa Clara Valley (IHCSCV) has been a wonderful opportunity for our residency program. There is a high level of commitment to education, clinical quality, and practice improvement within the IHCSCV, which is certified by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC), a national group that surveys and certifies clinics that meet national standards of care. The IHC has been accredited for over 10 years, and it is the only community health clinic in the area that is accredited.
In 2013, the Indian Health Center was also certified as a Patient Centered Health Home by the AAAHC. The AAAHC Medical Home accreditation is the highest achievement for primary care, as it centers on a comprehensive review of the entire organization assuring that our patients receive high-quality care consistent with AAAHC Standards for the ideal Medical Home model. Plans are currently underway to apply for PCHH status at the Family Health Center in the near future.
With the IHCSCV partnership, our residency clinic has been able to operate in a manner consistent with our vision of serving all people in Santa Clara County. The Indian Health Center’s
